Supermalome Magical T-shirt

A wearable fusion of African design and augmented reality — the Supermalome Magical T-shirt brings Litema-inspired art to life through your mobile browser.

Context

The Supermalome Magical T-shirt (previously known as Sitee) is an innovative product that combines African-inspired design with digital interactivity. At its center is a geometric heart motif, influenced by traditional African patterns and the Basotho art form of Litema. Litema, historically practiced as a form of visual storytelling, is reimagined here not only as a design element but also as a digital gateway.

Through the T-shirt, Supermalome explores how fashion, heritage, and technology can intersect to create new experiences. While augmented reality in retail is often tied to global brands or app-heavy solutions, this project brings a local, culturally rooted, and browser-based AR experience to audiences in South Africa and beyond. The goal: to create a product that is at once wearable, meaningful, and interactive.

Approach

Developed by Sisanda Tech under the Supermalome brand, the project followed a process that prioritized cultural integrity, accessibility, and experiential value.

Design & Cultural Roots

Crafted the geometric heart using Litema-inspired patterns to honor African design traditions.

Embedded symbolism into the artwork so it could serve as both fashion and an AR trigger.

Augmented Reality Integration

Chose web-based AR, allowing users to unlock experiences directly through their mobile browser without downloading an app.

Designed the AR layer to add playful and magical elements that complement the physical garment.

Product & Market Strategy

Positioned the T-shirt as a flagship product of Supermalome’s experiential store.

Released the product on Bobshop.co.za and Supermalome.co.za, with Takealot.com as an upcoming marketplace to expand reach.

Output

The Supermalome Magical T-shirt launched as a wearable interactive experience, bringing together art, technology, and retail innovation.

Audiences gain:

A culturally inspired design – rooted in African geometry and Litema tradition.

Seamless digital interactivity – AR experiences accessible through any smartphone browser.

A product with dual value – both a stylish garment and an immersive storytelling tool.

Easy availability – already sold online through trusted South African platforms, with broader distribution in progress.

By bridging traditional African aesthetics with cutting-edge augmented reality, the Supermalome Magical T-shirt demonstrates how cultural heritage can be celebrated and reimagined through digital products. It stands as both a fashion item and a digital experience, showing how local innovation can compete in the growing global market for interactive consumer goods.
